Specifically, he made a comment about how much more motivated I would become with triplets on the way and how everyone else on the call should invest in Stride Rite stock. At that point in time, I had much more on my mind than baby shoes and didn't think twice about the comment.

Now, it's real. When you're buying for three, the cost of kid's shoes can really add up. Even though each of the girls wears a different shoe size, it doesn't really translate into a usable hand-me-down scheme. So, I'm just sucking it up and buying more shoes.

If you have or have had young kids, you realize how quickly their little feet can grow. Obviously, you can't visibly see it on a day-to-day basis. However, one day you wake up and realize that the shoe they were wearing yesterday feels just a little too snug or you notice impression marks on their skin when you take off their shoes and socks at the end of the day. Throw in the changing seasons and the fact that they don't always lift their feet completely when taking steps (read as dragging toes across the concrete sometimes), you find yourself in "new shoe season" quite often.

This past weekend, Meg convinced me to join her for a trip to Stride Rite--my first. The previous time, Meg armed herself with a more capable and patient cadre knowing that it might be a little crazy.

In short, I survived, but it was crazy. We decided to get there a little early. So early in fact, the girls got a little impatient waiting outside. I know the clerks saw us and the door was even open and unlocked. I poked my head in to politely ask if they were open, as I wanted to kind of warn them we were coming. Nope, they were still closed. Really? So, as soon as the doors officially opened, we roll in with our quad stroller and, somehow, all of the lanes to the back of the store where the small toddler shoes reside are packed with kids, parents, and strollers. How did that happen? Somehow, we maneuvered our way to the back and managed to entertain the girls long enough to get them each re-measured and for Meg to find the shiniest shoes in the entire store. The girls couldn't handle the fact that they couldn't run around the entire store, so I took them out, gave them a few more snacks, and let Meg do the checking out. Fortunately, they were having a pretty awesome sale and we had some rewards dollars from our last purchase to defray some of the cost. It wasn't until I got home that I realize she picked the most 80's looking socks ever made (even more 80's looking than socks that were actually made in the 80's) to go with their new, shiny, glittery shoes.

Ok, so I'm completely making fun of their new shoes and socks and I'm sure that they'll look back at these photos in 20 years and ask "WTH were you guys thinking?" I'm not gonna lie though. They were pretty damn cute and I live for these moments :)

Well, gotta run. I think I hear "Sweatin to the Oldies" on somewhere in the house and I'm pumped!
I'm not sure, but Izzy seems to have stumbled onto something temporarily. Fortunately, their long-term memories don't seem to have kicked in yet and she was happy just a few minutes later. By the way, this is what you get when you try to make three two-year old sisters sit next to each other for a group picture.

I'm a couple months behind on blog posts and pictures, but some of these 2nd birthday pics were just too funny not to share. Yep, the girls turned two already. I can't believe it. It's amazing how each and every day seems like it will never end, but thinking about the last two years makes it all seem like it's going by too fast.

It's even crazier when I think back and compare their first birthday to this one and how much they've all changed. Last year, we were carrying Izzy's oxygen tank down to the beach with her. Both she and Maddy had just received their cranial bands to work out some of the flat spots on their head. They were both still on a ton of multi-time-per-day meds. Sophie was just on the verge of walking. They were all relatively docile and quiet little beings.

I blink my eyes and suddenly they're two going on 12 with personalities to boot! Besides Izzy's g-tube, you'd never know that she ever had any issues as a baby and was born at 1 lb 7 oz. She's still a few inches shorter than her sisters, but she's just as adventurous as the other two, if not more so sometimes. Sophie is Meghan's "Mini Me." I'm not sure if the "apple doesn't fall too far from the tree" saying has ever applied so succinctly. Maddy is our pressure release valve. She definitely takes after her dad and is very go-with-the-flow and independent, while not causing too much stress for her parents.

I'll let the pictures do the talking, but all in all, it was a great weekend. Beautiful weather. Very generous family and friends. So thankful to have these girls and never forget (even when they drive me crazy) how lucky we really are.

It's been a while since we've really taken a trip anywhere with the girls. Besides short trips to some of the toddler classes that the county offers to give parents an excuse to get out of the house, we really haven't taken the girls anywhere recently which required us to go through the <strike>painful</strike> effort of packing for three one year olds.

This Memorial Day weekend, we decided to break our travel legs back in slowly with an hour and a half trip to the lake. For those that have been following us for a while, you may recall we made a similar trip around the same time last year. That trip ended in less than a day when we realized we forgot Izzy's diuretics and needed to rush back home. Obviously, their first experience on the boat never materialized and would have to wait for another year.

Fast forward to 2013. This year, we were prepared. Fully armed with lots of sunscreen and toddler-sized life vests, and a baby that's 100% off of oxygen and diuretics, the only thing that would keep us off of the boat this year would be a horrible storm or if someone forgot to put oil in the engine. The latter did actually happen, but Charlie preemptively resolved this situation. The weather, which took a turn for the worst after our first day, gave us one of the most beautiful days this spring. The girls went for their first boat ride--tears, yelling, smiling, laughing, and all.

I think they really liked being out on the water. Maybe it was the pretzels we were feeding them, but who's keeping track. However, what they didn't like were the toddler-size life preservers. They got used to them after they realized they were the equivalent of straight jackets and they'd have to dislocate their shoulders to get out of them. We actually had to swap Izzy's for something a tad smaller to get her to settle down. In the end, they all returned to shore unscathed and ready to play in the sand.

Unfortunately, the next day was 180 degrees different than the first and the forecast for the next two days was pretty ominous. The girls, ok mostly dad, wasn't handling being stuck inside a non-baby-proofed house in the rain without the creature comforts of our home and I made an executive decision, after checking with Meghan, to head home a day early, but not before I had a chance to take advantage of a sunny afternoon by cutting grass on riding lawn mower with a frothy beverage in my hand. It was very King-of-the-Hill-esque and an assignment I would gladly sign up for again in the future.

Mary, Charlie, Shallee, Kelly, if you're reading this, sorry we bailed. Thanks for the time we did get to spend together and we'll definitely do it again before the girls leave for college ;-)
When I logged in and went back to my drafts to read what I had previously noted, I was reminded how much progress she's made in the last month. Since I never actually posted the updates, those that haven't seen Izzy in person lately have no idea how much this little lady has transformed in such a short period of time!

She weighs about 20 lbs now. Her last height measurement was 29.5
inches. She is growing and getting stronger every day. If you recall,
she had been on five different medications! We had weened her down to
three. Now, she's not on any!!!

A miracle? No. Miraculous work by my incredible wife? Absolutely.

About
three or four months ago, we had begun to ween her off of her
diuretics. She was starting to walk a lot more and seemed to be
building up her stamina. She was growing and it seemed logical that the
surface area of her lungs would also be growing with her, which would have a positive impact on how much oxygen she was getting. There were
days when she seemed lethargic and other days where she was doing
cartwheels. Overall, she was making progress and still is.

Around
the same time, Meg and I started eating a little better. Not perfect,
but we added green smoothies to our diet (we're still going relatively
strong by the way). It made us feel so much better. We thought to
ourselves, "Why couldn't we do the same thing with Izzy?" Izzy had been
on a special formula since the NICU and we had switched to the "junior"
version late last year. She was still having horrible reflux and
gagging with almost every feeding. Meg worked with the nutritionist to
come up with a mix of foods for our mega blender that would provide Izzy with the right mix
of proteins, fats, and carbs, as well as the right amount of overall
calories. While we've had some g-tube
"explosions" when the port occasionally gets clogged, she started
improving immediately with the real food blend. Honestly, I think it partly had
to do with the fact that the food wasn't all liquid and that she slowly
learned to manage her gagging. Over several weeks, we noticed that she
stopped gagging all together!

Could it get any better?
Quite simply, yes. After enough time passed, we decide to ween her
from her antacids since she wasn't having any more reflux. We are now 100%
medication free!

We've never really known what was
going to put her over the edge and make her want to start eating
again. Over time, we noticed her putting food near her mouth though she
still wouldn't think of taking a bite of anything we offered her.
Several weeks ago, we had a breakthrough. Izzy started eating.

I'm
sure it had a lot to do with the fact that she probably wasn't scared
that she was going to puke everything back up anymore and that she has
two sisters who are constantly acting as role models while they eat their
food in front of her. I know it was mostly due to Meghan's infinite
patience and her willingness to give Izzy opportunities to eat by mouth
throughout the day, even though we thought that it wasn't in
the cards for at least another year or two.

She's not eating
enough calories to make up for what she needs on a daily basis, but
she's had days where she's eaten over 50% of her calories by mouth.
It's not always easy and she's still working on associating the feeling
of hunger (and subsequent feeling of satisfaction) with the action of
eating. Sometimes, we just need to put some food on her lips, even
though she may be saying "no." Usually, once she remembers what food
tastes like, she'll open up and take more.

To watch her
now, you'd never know she was born weighing 1 lb 7 oz and that she
lived in the NICU for four months before coming home and that we were so
scared for her every time she had surgery.

It will still be a while before she's able to get rid of her g-tube, but it and the scars on her belly that serve as a reminder
of where she's been, can't hold a candle to the little girl who dances,
jumps, runs, climbs, now eats, and throws herself all over the couch
with reckless abandon when playing with her sisters.

She
loves to read, snuggle, and hide from her parents. She's also getting
very good at understanding what we're saying to her. She's extremely
vocal and talks all of the time.

Right now, she can sign: banana, english muffin, eat, more, fish, butterfly,
cat, dog, music, sheep, again, please,
thank you, stinky pants, down
I'm sure I've left something out, but better to write and post this today than to just have another set of updates that never get shared. Honestly, I can't keep up. These ladies change so much on a daily basis that, if there were time, I'd have endless stories to tell. I'll try to do better. I look at how much I wrote in 2011. Then, how comparatively little I wrote in 2012. 2013 is even worse. I'm not trying to make excuses. Ok, yes I am. Having three almost-two-year-olds is intense. Enjoyable, but intense, and making time to blog, while extremely important to me, falls behind putting food on the table and actually trying to participate in their lives.

More updates to come soon!
Today, she and her sisters are exactly 21 months old.

As of a couple of days ago, she's weighing in around 22 and a half pounds. She's also between 32-33", but seemingly a tad taller than sister Sophie.

Maddy is our climber and, honestly, it's a little scary. She's aware of edges, but definitely pushes it more than her sisters. For the most part, she'll listen when we tell her to sit or get down, but I think she would climb to the top of the house without giving it a second thought if we let her.

Our girl can laugh the most beautifully sounding laugh you've ever heard. It's as full body of a laugh as a one year old can have. I must admit, I probably tickle her unfairly just to hear that sound more often. Undoubtedly, she'll pay me back when she's older.

Also, she loves to be upside down. It's probably a side effect from her gymnastics classes, but she looks like she's always ready to do a somersault at a moment's notice. It's a combination between somersault preparation and the downward dog yoga position. I make an effort to mimic her, just so she can see my face right side up, even when she's upside down.

No doubt another side effect form her gymnastics/Monkeys-in-Motion classes, she loves to jump. We recently bought the girls a small trampoline for toddlers. The first few days, I was sure she was going to wear it out and, possibly, jump right through the bouncy fabric. Now, she bounces all of the time, trampoline present or not.

Her speech and communication are definitely delayed, but it's apparent that she's understanding more and more of what we say each day. While she's not really saying any words proactively to communicate with us, she utters no shortage of sounds, and is getting very good at trying to repeat the sounds and words we say to her. She's still working with speech, developmental, and occupational therapy on a weekly basis, and there are things I watch her doing now that I would have never imagined a month or even a week ago because of the extra help she receives. She is capable of making amazing progress and doing amazing things.

Right now, she can sign: banana, english muffin (ok, we
actually created a sign for this one), so big, eat, more, please, me, all done, and dog

When it comes to dancing, Maddy is starting to figure it out. She loves the music, but hasn't really figured out the whole "hip moving" thing. Oddly enough, this took her dad a while to master, as well. To encourage her to dance more, we pick her up, rock with the music, and spin her round and round while she cracks up.

Maddy LOVES books, but she equally loves electronics, which we try to limit as much as we can. All of the girls share a healthy obsession for Dora the Explorer, but Maddy actually wants to hug the screen and pull Dora right into our family room. One day Maddy, one day.

I'll wrap this up by sharing that she's a hot body, just like her dad. Each time I pick her up from her crib, it's like I just pulled her out of the oven. Those warm red cheeks matched with her beaming brown eyes and big smile make her a go-to snuggle bug.

Jeremy DeBauchehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01905211029443788072noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5944309249133102028.post-38119850812611986942013-05-19T21:49:00.002-04:002013-05-19T21:49:40.866-04:00What's happening with Sophie Rose?Let me start by sharing that these photos, and the ones that will follow for each of the updates for Izzy and Maddy, are a couple of months old. In subsequent posts, you'll see how big they REALLY are! For now, I just couldn't let these pics from a Sunday morning, banana pancake feast miss out on their introduction to the blogosphere.

Considering it's been several months since we've really written anything that resembles an update for each of the girls, I just couldn't wait another day to sit down and write up everything that's going in their relatively brief lives. I really just don't want to forget how much they're changing and growing each day.

At this point, everyone is still facing backwards in their
car seats. We're trying as hard as possible to make it until they're at
least two before turning them forwards. So far, so good. No one's
really complaining, they're legs aren't really crunched, and they're not
in the car for very long that often.

Also, the weather has taken a turn for the best and the girls have been living outside for a good part of each day. On a seemingly unrelated note, our monthly wine costs have decreased with the girls being able to get out of the house more often.

The first update is for Sophia, or Sophie Rose as she's commonly referred to when getting into trouble (yes, they do get into trouble). Well, maybe it's not trouble as much as it is just being a toddler, for which I'm having to find an entirely new level of patience in order to survive each day.

As of a couple of days ago, she's weighing in around 24lbs and some odd ounces. At this point, I think we can graduate from keeping track of the fractional pounds. Same thing with the height. She's at least 32", but no more than 33".

Due to my lack of updates, it's going to seem like she went from crawling to running in a mere matter of weeks, but she's walking and running like it's the only thing she's ever known how to do. There's nothing cuter than watching her and her sisters chase each other around the kitchen island.

As independent as she is, she's equally our biggest cuddler. First thing in the morning and right after nap time, she hangs on tighter than a koala joey. Try to put her down and sirens go off right in your ear.

She's definitely the closest with respect to wanting to begin potty training. We actually bought a toddler training potty, complete with a creepy smiley face on the back, just waiting to light up and play a poop or pee sponsored symphony and scare the crap, literally, out of its first victim.

Sophie has really made a ton of progress in her communication skills. I'm not sure if "parroting" is an official development stage, but we're really having to watch we say around her. At first, she would sign things to us after we said the word and showed her the object or action in question. She took the next step and began using signs to actually proactively communicate her needs/wants. Now, she's uses a mix of short words and signs to communicate. What's really scary is how much she actually understands. She pretty much can comprehend almost anything we say to her. Obviously, we're not teaching her quadratic equations, but most of the language you would use to communicate with a toddler, she gets.

Right now, she can sign: banana, english muffin (ok, we actually created a sign for this one), milk, eat, more, fish, butterfly, cat, dog, cow, bunny, music, bird, duck, sheep, again, help, please, thank you, stinky pants (we created this one, too), down

Right now, she can say: dad, mom, sis (sister), ma (maddy), abba (abigail), shhz (shoes), door (and Dora, as in the Explorer), wawa (water), poop, outz (outside), uppa uppa (up), pop (anytime she sees a bubble in book or real life), uh oh, cheese, ouch, truck, dirt, touch (as in NO touch), mess, yes (surprisingly, she's not saying "no" yet)

Sophie really likes to dance. We'll have dance parties in the kitchen and I've even caught her dancing to the blender when we make our green smoothies. So silly. She's really starting to notice the different rhythms to each song and moves her body and arms differently depending on what's playing.

She, and her sisters, are book-a-holics. While she enjoys being read to, she enjoys even more, identifying EVERY object on EVERY page, at which she's exceptionally good.

I need to spend a little time on the other girls' updates, so I'll end with this. Even though they're triplets, she definitely acts like the big sister. She likes to give everyone kisses and always (mostly) helps mom and dad when we're doing things for "sis." She's super adorable and her smile melts our hearts every day (actually, every hour).
That welcome weather allowed us to escape the confines of the indoors and play in the grass.

The girls were EXTREMELY happy to get some fresh air and the parents were equally as happy to let them burn off some of the energy reserves they've been building up over the last several months. We took them for a walk, hit up the swings, and showed off at the slides.

While they all liked being outside, Maddy seemed to enjoy it the most, or at least that's what her face was telling me. Look for yourself.
We kicked off the weekend with a massive parent/child Easter egg hunt and wrapped it up with a big family dinner. The girls are still a little too young to really get it, but they had fun just being outside. It's all just training for next year.

We brought home most of Meg's mom dining room set and Meg was able to set up our table with the same china she grew up with at her house--a tradition that she wants to pass on to our girls.

The "real" egg hunt was a completely different experience. Tons of parents of 1-2 year olds, lined up along both foul lines of a baseball field, waiting for someone to blow the whistle. I never would've imagined that a bunch of sub-two-year-olds could clear an entire field full of eggs in less than 90 seconds. The truth? They can't, but a bunch over-eager parents sure the heck can. I have never seen so many adults going so absolutely crazy that they didn't even take the time to let their kids pick up their own eggs. C'mon people. Let your kids have some fun and learn to do it themselves.

In the end, we got a couple of eggs for each girl then hung around and waited for everyone to leave so the girls could run around the field without the risk of being scooped up by another parent and put into their kid's Easter basket.
And oh, how times have changed. I remember waking up PT (Pre-Triplets), frustrated with myself because I had forgotten, yet again, to pick up some cool looking St. Patty's Day green shirt that might make me look a little more fun and that much more like I might possibly have an ounce of Irish in me, but ready to put my game face on for the festivities that laid ahead that day.

This year was different. There would be no Irish bar. There would be no Irish Car Bombs. However, there would be fish, just without the chips. Fortunately for me, several years ago, I found a long-sleeved shirt that I can wear every St. Patrick's Day (as I long as I keep my weight in check). There was no thinking. I knew exactly in which drawer to find my hibernating green reminder of my PT days. No lounging around with coffee this a.m. This St. Patrick's Day morning was about efficiency! We had three little ladies who were about to make their first visit to the aquarium, specifically, the Shedd Aquarium in downtown Chicago, and we needed to get them ready to go.

We had tried the zoo last fall, but it turned out the girls were just a little too young. I remember pushing them around for what seemed like miles, which they liked, but also remember them not really looking too far past the fences and guard rails at the animals who were waiting to catch their eye just beyond. This almost-spring trip would be different.

Plus, we needed to get out of the house. The winter seems like it's lasting almost half of the year and, besides some weekly classes that serve as a welcome respite from the confines of home for Meg and the girls, we're all just cooped up in the house. Bring on the sun! Bring on the warm weather! On this day, we at least had the former.

On a side note, I'm getting really used to people who continue to gawk and comment on our triple-y blessed status.

"Yes, we sure do have our hands full."
"Yes, we're probably 'done' now, but it's amazing how intuitive you are to know that we may not be having any more kids even though you've never met us." and,
"Yes, I'm also thankful that you didn't have three babies because I definitely wouldn't want you to kill yourself."

One final note on the photos. I shared the girls' St. Patrick's Day photo last week, so these are from the rest of the day. Sophie was the last one to get in the car, so I grabbed a quick photo of mom and daughter as we were hurrying out the door. Glad I did :)

This was only their second time in public having lunch in cafe-provided booster seats. We had an educational trip to Panera Bread in January where we learned that our girls loved to throw their food on the floor immediately after having it handed to them. This time, we were a little more prepared and they were a little more experienced. Don't let me fool you, I would've hated to have been the clean-up person at the cafeteria who came behind us. Though, they've probably seen worse.

I tried to capture it on video, but missed it every time. "It" being that whenever Sophie would put down her food to take a drink, look at the people passing by, or pay attention to some other distraction, Maddy would ever so nonchalantly slide her hand over and quietly take ownership of Sophie's temporarily forgotten, and forever lost, treats. Toddlers must have short memories. Sophie didn't seem confused, she just asked for more like she finished what she was just working on.
I think my favorite exhibit, even though I was stung by one several years back and contemplated having a friend pee on my leg to make the pain go away, was the jellyfish exhibit. It was incredible. I know the lighting had something to do with it, but they were truly magnificent. And, no, I decided against having anyone else shower my leg in urine, in case you were still wondering.
Probably my favorite one. I swear that I keep going back to look at this photo. It's beautiful. Almost like an orange bouquet of flowers near the top. Truly exquisite.
It's been two and a half months since we've written a blog! I
apologize to our friends and family who have missed the updates. The
good news is we will do our best to fill you in on all of that missing
time, and we have a lot of great stories and pics in the cue. Jeremy
and I are planning to commit to a blog per week for the rest of March and April. This
is humorous since I just recently told most of my friends I was planning
on writing a blog-a-day in the month of March. Here we are on March
17th and I'm just getting the first on out there. It's surely not for
lack of interesting things to write about. Every day the girls are
getting cuter and more fun and Jeremy is taking pictures like crazy. Our
problem simply is extreme lack of time. There just aren't many spare
minutes in the day and by the time we get to have time to sit down, I'm
typically so exhausted I can't seem to string words together to do any
writing. We've realized Sundays are good days though. With both of us
home we will figure out a way to get some triplet updates out to you.

Since it's been so long, I figured we could start off with a good old fashioned update on each girl.

Sophie

Current weight: 23 lbs. Current height: 32 inches
Little miss Sophie is really starting to turn into a big girl. There are
many stories we'll share with you about her growth. At the end of the
day, the best thing about Sophie's growing is that she is getting to be
so much more fun. She makes us laugh every day and her small graduations
are making life for mom and dad much easier. Although she's a bit
camera shy, Jeremy has been able to capture some great pics of sweet
Sophie.

Izzy

Current weight: 19.5 lbs. Current height: 29.5 inches.
Little miss Izzy is growing stronger every day. Unfortunately, she
wasn't growing very much at all over the last few months, but we've been
working with the dietician to make some aggressive changes to her
feeding regimen, which seem to be making a big difference for her.
She's definitely happier and much more interested in copying everything
that Sophie does. She loves to joke around with us and gets such a kick
out of herself when we laugh. We're feeling so much better that we've
been able to get her reflux under control and now she has many more
laughs than tears.

Maddy

Current weight: 22.5 lbs. Current height: 32 inches
Sweet, laid-back Maddy is our godsend. She is a blessing to a triplet
family. While the other girls are in and out of time-out during the day,
I'm not sure I've even had to tell Maddy "no" yet. She is almost always
content, patient, and self-directed. Unfortunately, while these qualities
make our life so much easier, they are also signs of some developmental
delays she may have. We still don't have any updates on a diagnosis,
but she's making progress, in her own way, every day. We'll definitely
get into more details later, but for now enjoy these cute pics of our
sweet little lady.

Jeremy DeBauchehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01905211029443788072noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5944309249133102028.post-36469942179739933902013-01-09T01:56:00.000-05:002013-01-09T01:56:29.013-05:00Not Ready For PrimetimeMeg has this rule that we must get out of the house on the weekend, even if it's REALLY cold outside. I get it. The babies get bored in the house. They need adventure, even if dad is finally just getting to relax for a little bit.

Unfortunately, we're in between class season for the girls. Their "Monkeys-in-Motion" class doesn't begin for another couple of weeks and, while Cafe-n-Play is fun, it's also expensive! So, where do we take our babies? To the mall. It's an endless maze in which we can get lost for hours. Ok, actually AN hour before our girls get bored there, too.

This time, we were going for broke. Not only were we going to intentionally delay their nap so that we could eat, we were going to subject the public to our trio. We should probably do this more often, but we rarely take them out to eat. Usually, we're eating on the go if we're out and about, but we hardly ever sit down together, outside of the house, for a meal in public.

We found our favorite pre-baby spot--Panera Bread. My mouth began watering when I started thinking about which U Pick 2 combo would be sacrificed at the expense of my hunger. We found a spot in the back, thinking that it would be away from the pack, but we were not alone. We wrangled up three high chairs and took up an entire table meant for 10. Meg was bold and went for the grilled cheese sandwich for the girls. Now, if you've never head a grilled cheese sandwich at Panera, you probably don't realize that they use about 10 slices of cheese per sandwich. Hey, I love cheese, but when it comes off of the grill and gets handed to a one-year-old, watch out! The cheese is so runny, the bread has no choice but to part ways, each taking a 50% stake in its cheese. It's not very grabbable (is that a word?), but Sophie and Maddy dug in, cheese oozing through their fingers, while trying to stuff it in their mouths. Izzy watched with a smile on her face and she mocked her silly cheese-eating sisters. I'm sure she was quite embarrassed to be seen with those two mess-makers.

By the time it was all over, the sandwiches had visited the ground a couple of times, the kids were full, the chairs were a mess, and there were no more people sitting around us. Where did they go? Why would they leave?

Conclusion, we're not ready for primetime yet. Someday soon, I know, but just not now. For now, we'll stick to eating in the stroller and throwing the food and drink off our trays at home. Until next time...
He still lives in Raleigh, NC, but I'm thinking there's a good chance he'll be living near us within the next few years (hint, hint dad if you're reading this). How could you stay away from these girls after all?

My dad unknowingly assumed the brave responsibility of helping me with the girls for the weekend before Christmas. Meg had to leave town for a couple of days to begin packing up her mom's house since we found a buyer! Of course, her leaving coincided with all three girls getting sick...again (it's amazing how the timing of that works out). Now, I pride myself on being able to take care of these girls myself, sometimes. However, this time around, I was no match for three sick toddlers. Personally, I don't think it was all me. Even with my dad here, we just couldn't keep these girls happy. I knew exactly what they needed.

I wish I could tell you that I found a way to get through it. That I'm the type of dad who can handle anything. Instead, I called my wife, frustrated and in somewhat of a panic and, basically, pleaded for her to come home a day early. To my surprise, she had already left a couple of hours earlier and had planned on surprising me with her early arrival. Needless to say, I was ecstatic when she walked through the door. It wasn't just me though, the girls turned in to these completely different little ladies when they saw her. There's just something about mom.

All in all, it wasn't a total failure. It's always good for me to get a fresh reminder of what Meg goes through on a daily basis. It reminds me that she's her own backup and reinforcements. Obviously, I play my part when I'm home during some of the evenings and on the weekend, but in our girls' eyes, she's always numero uno.

After a few days, my dad got, what I'm sure was, a well-deserved break from the babies and some time with his own mom. This time around, I remembered to break out the camera and I'm so glad I did. I love looking back at pictures of me with my grandma and I'm so glad our girls will have a chance to do the same when they get older.

By the way, one of the girls' presents this year was a <strike>medium</strike> HUGE slide. It was supposed to be the next step up from the one that's about 10 inches off of the ground. Apparently, there is no such thing as a medium slide. It's either they can touch the ground and the top of the slide with their feet at the same time or they appear to be climbing Mt. Everest, ready to jump from the top. Fortunately, they're all having fun with it, except that time when two of them bonked heads at the bottom. Besides that, it's great.

Sophie, ready for the morning's first slide trip
Honestly, things still seem too relaxed for it to actually be real life. It's not that life got any less busy over the holidays, it's just that the corresponding pressure that always accompanies our busyness didn't seem to have the same effect. It was a great feeling. It was also great to really get to spend some QT with Meg and the girls. There is a part of me that feels good to be back at work, but I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't thinking about all of my ladies all day long.

As we enter 2013, I can't help but think about everything we accomplished in 2012. 2011 was a difficult year, but 2012 definitely ranks as one of the busiest in our lives. Maybe it will always be that way. Maybe I'll always write that the year just ended was busier than the one before. For now, all I have under my belt is my first full year of being a father to three baby girls, and everything it entailed, while also trying to be the sole income earner for our family, as well as a good husband. I'm sure I could improve in all of those areas, but I'll leave that topic for a future post.

There were stressful times (sicknesses and surgeries) and sad times (death of Meg's mom, Sharon), but we also got to experience so many good times (the girls' first vacation, their first birthday, their first steps, the end of bottles, sleeping through the night, Sharon's wedding on the beach, etc).

Meg and I are beginning 2013 with a fresh perspective. We're adapting, and will always be adapting, to being the parents of growing and changing toddlers. We still consider ourselves extremely blessed each and every day we get to spend with our girls. We both know that life can change on a dime. Every hour, every day, and every week, we are thankful. Every cry, every tantrum, and every poopy diaper, we are thankful. 2012 proved that innocence and loved ones can be lost in a minute and that even the very young are not immune to the craziness that exists in our world. I WILL do better at cherishing every moment and every experience I'm lucky enough to share with our girls.

The girls begin 2013 with hopes of getting more teeth, trying new food, figuring out what's on the OTHER side of the gate, being photographed less (not going to happen), everyone eating solids TOGETHER (that means you Izzy), getting off of all meds, figuring out what happens when mommy and daddy sit on the toilet, going crazy in their new bounce house, and saying their first "real" words.

For now, I'll leave you with the reason we now need to go buy gates for the staircase, courtesy of Miss Sophia.

All of the girls were sick over the Christmas holiday, which produced an unexpected result. Izzy, who normally turns her head away from all food, seemed a little interested in this squishy stuff her sisters were eating. While she was sick, we were able to keep her hydrated, but her gag reflex was overly sensitive and she wouldn't keep her formula down. So, it appeared that she was quite hungry. She didn't go overboard with it, but she actually put her mouth towards the food and kind of rubbed her face around in it. It's not eating, but it's definitely the kind of progress we love to see!
We've been giving Sophie and Maddy some chicken and spinach-filled ravioli lately. While this picture looks like she grabbed it out of the trashcan and is very excited about it, I can ensure you that she brought it with her. What I can't tell you is when we cleaned our trashcan last. Yuck.
Sophie is going through a phase where she REALLY wants to see what's happening on the island when we're making dinner. It's pretty difficult to hold her and cook, so now she has a seat. Though her legs are getting long enough where she can almost stand up with the her high chair strapped around her waist. Not sure what we'll do next.
So, it was actually getting cold in our kitchen. In order to save air vent grate, we had closed it and covered it up with the rug leading out to the patio. From time to time, the girls would remember it was under there, lift the rug, steal the grate, the proceed to scare us by sticking their limbs down the hole. Enough was enough! We opened up the vent and warm air rushed out, immediately warming up the kitchen. There was only one option to keep our sanity-painter's tape, though duct tape would probably work, too, though it might leave some residue later. So far, the girls haven't figured out how to peel off the tape and now go over to the grate to let the wind blow their hair around :)
With Miss Izzy, we've started the weaning process from her Sildenafil. If you recall, she was taking it to help relieve the pulmonary hypertension they were seeing from her lungs not being able to get enough oxygen to her heart. When we began with the med, the blood vessel wall loosened up, allowed more oxygen-rich blood to get more easily to heart. Her energy levels jumped and she became more active. The docs now think she's grown enough to get the oxygen she needs without the med. We're on a six-week weaning process. We're already two weeks in to it and there's no sign of her slowing down. If anything, she seems to be speeding up. One second she's in the kitchen. I turn around and two seconds later, she's crawled across the family room and is pulling up on my leg!

Great Aunt Mary got the girls a Laugh & Learn Love to Play Puppy for Christmas. They love it so much, I was debating on whether to go buy two more. Then I thought to myself, "at some point, they really need to work on their sharing." The point is, they love this puppy. So much so that I find myself singing songs that the puppy sings. How lame is that?

Lastly, I still have a post from my dad's visit before Christmas that I haven't posted yet, but we had some additional visitors between Christmas and New Year's Day. Grandma and Grandpa Carrick spent the week with us and got their triplet fill. Probably enough to last them a couple of months :)
A year ago, Izzy had just come home from the NICU five days earlier and we were still getting up every four hours for feedings.

This year, the girls gave us the best present they could possibly give--they let us sleep in until 7:00am. Seriously, no one made a peep. Something very un-baby-DeBauche-like. They were even pleasant at breakfast! It was a Christmas miracle!

Honestly, I think they're still a little too young to get it. I mean, I don't think they really understand much about the excitement of presents and the anticipation that accompanies waiting for Christmas morning. For those of you who are saying to yourself, "Isn't he forgetting about the TRUE meaning of Christmas?" I am not. My guess is that they'll understand and look forward to opening presents long before they understand what Christmas is really about. Don't worry, we'll get there. However, until they're old enough to get it, we're going to make sure that every Christmas morning is as fun as can be because, before we know it, they'll be big kids and we'll be longing for them to be small again, with all the excitement that being a little kid brings.

Meg, Sophie, Izzy, Maddy, and I all hope you had a wonderful and very merry Christmas!
Sophie has now figured out how to take her pants off. She's also realizing that, sometimes, a surprise awaits if she sticks her hand down the back of her diaper. Gross! Here's to hoping that I don't have to break out the duct tape. Let's hope that the other girls don't try to emulate this behavior. The last thing I want is to step on a "surprise" when I'm half awake.
It's good for a couple of reasons.

Primarily, it's great that we're able to capture so many memories of the girls with their friends and family. I'm sure your parents told you what kind of things you were doing when you were one, well, if they remember. Surely you don't, do you? These little ladies will form memories when they get old from looking at these photos and reading these stories. After a while, they'll even try to figure out if what they're remembering is based on an actual memory or if it's just from these photos. Funny how that works.

The second, and most important, reason is because we don't have to drive anywhere! For years, without kids, we were the ones that had to travel for every holiday. Now, everyone comes to us! This doesn't mean we won't take trips in the future, it just means that, for now, we can enjoy these holidays with memories filled with family and not the crazy trips that typically accompany getting to see your family. Though, some would argue those memories are just as important. Those "some" probably don't have triplets however. We'll get there. Just not yet :)

Last weekend, my mom (aka Nana) came to visit on her way to Virginia from Oregon. She stayed for a few days to fill up her triplet tank until she comes back our way again. She was just here a few months ago, but the girls have grown leaps and bounds since then. As I'm sure she would attest, it was a completely different visit.

Sophie likes giving kisses now. A little too freely actually.

Is she pushing down or pulling up? You make the call. (hint: look at her face)

Our pretty little lady

Izzy's starting to stick up for herself a little more. We've been letting the girls "work things out" when they both want the same toy and Sophie, being a little bigger, would usually out-muscle one of the other girls. Well, not so fast my friend. Izzy's using her booty to stake her claim and Sophie doesn't like it one bit.

So, I thought someone just forgot to wipe the sweet potato dinner off of Maddy's face. Alas, we found out that we're feeding Maddy too much "orange stuff" and it's turning her skin orange! Go figure.
Meg began writing this post a month and a half ago and we're finally getting some time to finish it.

November 4th marked a very important day for our little ladies. As of now, they are one year adjusted. At this point last year, we had 11-week-old preemies who were just passing their due dates. Sophie and Maddy were at home and Izzy still had a tough road ahead in the NICU with 1.5 months out of her 4.5 month stay remaining.

Today, you'd almost never know our girls were preemies, except for some delays in milestones. So, let's get down to the stats!

Sophia:
Weight: 23 lbs., 75th percentile
Height: 30.5 in., 85th percentile

Our little spitfire is getting faster each day. She walks everywhere and climbs on everything. Falling off is no problem her her. Usually, she just gets up and tries again. She says baba, mama, dada and a whole bunch of other sounds. She's learning to sign. Currently, she waves hello and goodbye, signs "all done" when she's done eating, shows "so big", and holds up her pointer finger when you ask her how old she is. She is also learning the names of many objects. She knows who dada and mama are as well as the words ball, piggy, kitty, baba, book, and the phrase "turn the page." Every day brings new learning!

She already loves shoes. I think I need to find her a new passion, like cleaning the dishes.

Definitely the most jealous of the three, so far

Has huge smiles!

Madelyn:
Weight: 21 1bs., 50th percentile
Height: 30 in., 80th percentile

Maddy is growing and learning every day, too. The therapists working with Maddy believe she has sensory processing disorder (SPD). Because sensory processing issues are part of autism spectrum disorders we've been very worried about her. The pediatrician was also concerned when we shared our observations of her behavior at home. He advised that if she didn't start "coming out of her world" a bit more by the time she was 18 months adjusted, then we would start to worry about the autism spectrum. Although kids with autism spectrum disorders have SPD, kids can also have SPD and not be autistic. Preemies with NICU experiences have increased risk of having a sensory disorder.

The great news is that over the last few months since our one-year check-up at the pediatrician, Maddy seems to be doing a lot better. She's not yet communicating with gestures like waving, but she is starting to communicate her needs and wants to us through crying. She's also showing a much greater interest in being near us. Earlier, she would play for hours and never notice if we were in the room. She wouldn't look when we called her name. Now if we're in the room, she sees us, drops her toy immediately, and makes a B-line toward our legs. This is great news and leads us to believe she does not have an autism spectrum disorder just a sensory processing issue.

Maddy had her re-evaluation for developmental therapy last week at which time it was determined she could benefit from adding this to her weekly routine. So now she gets speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and developmental therapy. As you can imagine we're busy, busy, busy!

Another celebration for Maddy is that she's walking! At just 12 months adjusted, two of our little ladies are walking. I still can't believe it sometimes! Although she's not as stable as Miss Sophie yet, she's practicing all the time and getting better every day. She is so cute. I often hear her giggling as she's taking steps and trying to keep her balance. :)

Funny, I thought she was going to have blue eyes

Since they're the only ones walking right now, Maddy and Sophie have a blast playing together, especially when they're playing "I get you!" and chasing each other around the room

By the way, we've since moved up to the big bathtub in our bathroom

Isabelle:
Weight: 20 1bs., 35th percentile
Height: 28 in., 15th percentile

Izzy has made leaps and bounds since our last post. She's crawling, pulling to stand, and cruising on the furniture! Just a few weeks ago, she wasn't crawling yet and look at her today. Every time she pulls herself up she looks to us for celebration, so now we're clapping all the time.

Although physically she's a bit behind, her cognitive development is right on track. She's waving hello and goodbye and clapping and she's starting to match words to objects like mama, dada, and kitty.

Also, we have had lots of small graduations recently and they're definitely worth celebrating!

1. We packed up the bottles and Sophie and Maddy are using bottles.
2. Izzy is off of oxygen! Yahoo!
3. The cranial bands are done as of this week and they made a huge difference for both girls.
4. Maddy and Sophie are self-feeding regular table foods.
5. We're down to one nap.
6. Did I say two out of the three are walking already? :)
7. Maddy is done with reflux and reflux medicine!

Until next time... I was shocked to see that so many other parents had the exact directions to Santa's house. I thought it was only something that he shared with kids on the "nice" list, but one of the elves must have eaten too much candy, fallen in to a sugar-induced coma, and sent the address to the parents of the kids on the "naughty" list by accident. There's always something falling through the cracks (remembering back when they forgot batteries with some of Santa toys).

On second thought, maybe the other kids really weren't naughty after all and it's just the fact that the entire ordeal took two hours before we even got to see Santa that was the bigger problem. However, as always, it was completely worth it!

This year, the elves allowed parents to bring their own camera, if they wanted. That was music to my I'm-sick-of-polaroid-quality-photos-with-Santa ears. To top things off, Mrs. Claus was more than accommodating in helping Meghan get the girls situated on Santa's lap.

Though one demonstrated utter joy, one shear terror, and another was on the fence, all three girls will always have the memory of their first visit to the North Pole captured on digital film and ready to be cherished at a moment's notice!

To Santa (in case you search the blogosphere):

"Santa, until next year, thanks for letting us visit and not freaking out when we crammed three crying babies in to your lap. I promise it will be easier next year. Maybe. By the way, if there's a nibble missing from your cookies when you come to our house, it was just the cat...or a mouse...or something else that you probably don't need to worry about. Same story for the milk. Also, please be quiet on your way out. If you wake up a baby, you'll be getting a house guest next year! Also, we know where you live. Remember what happened with Will Ferrell in Elf? By the way, great pic with the girls (see below). You don't look scared at all. Feel free to use it in your personal album. Not kidding about waking up the babies. Merry Christmas!"
She had the most absurd idea of having me actually IN some of the photos. I'm guessing that 90% of the world's photographers don't enjoy being on the other end of the camera, but I decided that I didn't want our girls looking back on photos of their youth and wondering whether Meg had raised them as a single mother.

So, I did what any photographer would do in this situation, I scoured the internet for a photographer that I thought would meet my standards and, let me tell you, I have high standards. I used to spend a lot more time looking at other photographer's work. In fact, it's a great way to learn how to critique your own work and develop your own style. These days, not so much.

Honestly, I looked at a plethora of websites. "Style" is definitely something that's unique to the individual. Fortunately, I found someone with a similar look and feel that I try to achieve in many of the photos with my girls.

After all was said and done, with enthusiasm, we selected Amy Goray <www.amygorayphotography.com> to take our first REAL, as an entire family, one-year photos. We pushed the shoot out a little in to early October to make sure we had some color from the leaves changing, so they're actually a little over 13 months old in these pics. While 90% of photographers don't like being photographed, I'm guessing that maybe 90% of photographers also don't like having other photographers as clients. I'm sure there are some that find it helpful that their clients understand their language and what they're trying to do when it comes to posing and lighting, but I can also imagine it getting really annoying when your photographer-subject tries to impart their perspective and opinion in to your photo shoot. Thanks for being patient with me Amy.

Amy actually came highly recommended from another local triplet mom, so I knew it wouldn't be her first triplet rodeo. Though, I'm sure nothing could prepare her completely for an afternoon with the DeBauche trio. By the time it was all said and done, we escaped with only some red cheeks, cold fingers, and, what will be, a wall full of great memories and images of our still-pretty-young family.
Two weekends ago, one of my closest friends, Pat, came to visit. He had never met the girls before. I've known Pat for almost 15 years. I'm so thankful that an introduction was finally made, though I'm completely disappointed that I didn't take a single picture of him with the girls. Next trip.

This most recent weekend, Uncle Buddy and Aunt Carolee drove up from Springfield to get their triplet fix. You can't really blame them though, can you? I'd drive three hours to see these little ladies.

One of the benefits of having moved to Chicago was to be closer to some of the family from whom we used to be far away. When you're within a reasonable drive, why shouldn't you make time to see each other?

It's unfortunate that it takes something so drastic to make you remember what's important sometimes, but Sharon's (Meg's mom) passing reminded me how fleeting life can be and how much we really need to cherish the moments we have with our loved ones.

I, for one, have not always been the best at making time for family. In my youth (yes, I classify myself as getting older now), time was abundant and the thought of not having time with the people for whom I cared so deeply, never crossed my mind. I was selfish with my time. Time goes on forever. There will always be another tomorrow, right? At least that's what I used to tell myself.

Everyone is getting older, including us. I had never been to a funeral in my life and within the last 18 months, I've been to three. I'm not trying to set any records here, but I am realizing every day that this is a trend I do not like, yet can't avoid, as much as I'd like to. There's no putting your head in the sand and pretending like your loved ones will always be on the other end of the phone when you want to catch up.

I'm not saying anything that hasn't been said before. Nor am I unique in coming to this realization after the death of a loved one. For me and, probably, for all who have figured this out before me, it is profound. But it shouldn't be. We should all be so lucky to have family in our lives and even more lucky to remember how incredible a gift it is before it's gone.

Well, this post took a completely different track than what I set out to write about, but it's worth sharing if it makes someone call a parent, a grandparent, an aunt, an uncle, a child, or a friend just to say "hello" and catch up for five minutes.

This weekend, my mom comes to town. For now though, enjoy some pics of the girls with Uncle Buddy, Aunt Carolee, and some cool Chicago weather!

Buddy and Carolee, thank you for making time to come see us. You're welcome back any time!
You could always count on at least one other kid showing up with a runny nose, just waiting for your kids to go play on the toy that he just sneezed all over. I will miss that.

What do we do now? There's always Cafe N Play. We'll see. Honestly, we're not too worried. We'll have guests in town every weekend from this past one to the second weekend in January. At that time, a new Monkeys in Motion class will begin and there will be new germs to discover. The girls can't wait!

Sadly, we've been away for over a month. Not away from our home or our lives, but from the blogosphere. It's not that I haven't been wanting to write. In fact, I have a month's worth of photos to share. We've just been busy. Busier than I think our family has ever been.

It all started with that damn RSV again. It hit the girls during the second week of November. Then, on a much more serious and sad note, Meg's mom, Sharon passed away. I have an entire blog post that I'll be writing in hopes of celebrating her life. I want to make sure that when my girls read these posts later, they'll at least get a glimpse of who their grandmother was and have photos to help fill the enormous void that Sharon's passing will inevitably be creating. Thanksgiving crept up on us as soon as we returned from Erie. Then I had a big proposal due at work.

Like I said, there are a ton of photos and I'm going to make every effort possible to get caught up this week with older posts. So, get your popcorn ready and pull up a chair. Cute pictures await you!
It was exactly one year ago, to the day, that we were finally able to bring Maddy home from the NICU to join Sophie, who had come home two weeks before. We would still have to wait another month and a half for Izzy to escape from the NICU.

So, this was our first Halloween together, as a complete family. As it always does, time ran out and dad forgot to get his Big Bad Wolf costume. In my heart, I was dressed as a wolf. In reality, I looked like I should've been on a boat at sea. I think the girls will forgive me though. I have plenty more Halloweens on which to look foolish and have fun with my girls.

We walked around the neighborhood with Kelly and Keegan. I was a little disappointed in my little ladies and their inability to scrounge up candy for their parents. Those feelings were quickly cast aside when, towards the end of the walk, a mother walked from her house, down to the sidewalk, and put some candy in each girl's trailer. I said, "Thank you" to the nice lady. She probably thought I was thanking her on behalf of my girls, but that would be a lie. Seriously, did she think that any good parent would really let their young kids play with candy? I did the only responsible thing I could think of to save my daughter's lives and ate the candy. They'll thank me for that kind of bravery when they get older.

One other benefit of walking around with your kids is that you're forced to find time to catch up with your spouse and enjoy the benefits of drinking mommy and daddy juice. For those that don't know, mommy and daddy juice is full of life-enriching benefits and has the most awesome side effects, such as making you immune to the cold. Definitely better than all of those other "adult" drinks that our kid-less friends consume.

Fun fact: Did you know that an entire bottle of wine can fit in most standard plastic water bottles that all of those healthy people use when they're working out? Neither did I. Just thought you should know and I can't remember how I figured that out.

They're going to be mad at us one day when we break out these photos. Then, they'll get older and be thankful that we took them. Just a guess.

We had to bundle the girls up in multiple layers to keep them warm. The only problem is that they couldn't move an inch.
A mom's job is never done. After all of the excitement, babies still need to get ready for bed. The tired ones go searching for a lap to crawl in to and warm body to snuggle up against. Moms are good for that.
However, in our house, there are plenty to go around, even if I'm only a jealous spectator. In fact, it's one of the things I look forward to most each morning--waking up to see how much partying each of my ladies' hair did that night. I know, it's the small things :)

There are so many variables that go in to each morning's stylings--the time since their last bath, whether they slept with pigtails in, whether some remnants of food were forgotten in their hair, etc. The one thing that's the same though, each and every morning, is the smile that it puts on my face and the pictures that magically appear which inevitably scream to be taken.

Enjoy their latest creations!
This past weekend, she temporarily disregarded her motherly duties and flew to Nashville to participate in a wedding with some close friends of ours. I was supposed to be with her, but we're not ready to unleash our girls on anyone yet, so I stayed at home for some father-daughter(s) bonding time.

Honestly, after the first couple of days, I was thinking to myself, "Hey, this staying-at-home-with-the-babies thing isn't that tough!" And that's when it happened. The girls sensed it--Dad getting comfortable. I let my guard down and they let me have it. My sweet, sweet girls disappeared, at least on the surface, and were replaced with these screaming, unhappy near-human beings. Seriously, don't they know that crying only adds snot on top of snot that's there from the colds that all three of them shared?

In reality, it wasn't all bad. We read a lot of books. We shared a lot of laughs. I laughed, they cried. They laughed, I cried. We cruised around the neighborhood in our choo choo wagon, while stopping to check out the fallen leaves. It wasn't enough to experience the colorful leaves through her senses of just sight and touch, Sophie wanted to taste the chlorophyll to truly understand what leaves were. I got puked on (several times). But in the end, we all escaped unscathed physically and emotionally (mostly).

Meg's return was a blessing. I truly think the girls respond to her differently than they do to me. It's not that they don't love me, because it's obvious that they do, but there's something about Mom and the girls know it and, believe me, I do too!

The alternate title for this blog post was Where Does Snot Come From, Really? I mean seriously, it's like there's some internal faucet in there whose handle's been broken off.

Even with a monster cold, Maddy was pretty unfazed. She's very proud of all of the teeth she's getting though and isn't afraid to show them off (front four on the top and front four on the bottom)!

I can't stop cracking up when I see this photo. You should have seen the bubble slowly growing. I actually had time to run and get my camera! She put a lot of effort in to this one!

There's nothing like the smell of your baby's breath when they have a cold and can only breathe through their mouth. Listerine anyone?
We had friends and family welcomely invade our home. I meant to post these last week, but each and every day got away from me.

Last Saturday, the girls' great grandma, Jane, their great aunt, Patti, and their cousin, Becky, all drove down from Green Bay to spend the day with our little ladies. The very next day, our good friends, Laurie and Errick, as well as their son, Hudson (I've posted pics of him before), drove over from Grand Rapids, MI to meet our girls for the first time.

There's never enough time to spend with your loved ones, but I love being able to look back and remember all of the smiles and laughter.

Before my grandma left, I really wanted to make sure that I got a photo of her with all three of the girls. Of course, the photographer in me wanted to bring out a little light, but it proved to be much more difficult than I imagined. Not surprisingly, it wasn't the light that was difficult.

We tried to do this outside, but I couldn't get the girls to stand in the grass. Even with three helpers, we just couldn't get the shot.

So, we moved inside on to one of the couches. Aside from Maddy almost flying off of the couch face-first, the girls survived and I got some really fun shots!
