And your name shall be...

No more Baby A, Baby B, and Baby C.  Our girls are far enough along in the belly-baking process where they deserve more formal names.  Plus, referring to them as babies "A, B, and C" makes them sound like they're part of some formula or SAT test question, like "Train A is going east at 40 mph and Train B is going west at 60 mph..." You get the picture.

Meg and I went back and forth many times about whether we wanted our girls' names to have similar sounding endings, such as "a" or "n".  We also were thinking about some more traditional Irish names, since Meg's family is Irish.  By the way, my heritage is Belgian, so I wasn't really sure where to start with that one.  We finally decided that we wanted them to all be a little bit different and we all wanted them to have names that had the possibility for cute-sounding nicknames.

Well, we ended up with Sophia, Isabelle, and Madelyn, who will all, most likely, be called by their nicknames (which we've already decided)--Sophie, Izzy, and Maddy.  Personally, I think we did a great job coming up with these names together, though Meghan did a lot of the legwork, providing me with her favorite options, and then I provided my vote for my favorite combo.

Now that they all have names, they feel like they're just a little more real. "Baby A" just seems so clinical, but "Sophie" makes me want to pick her up and squeeze her.

We still haven't come to an agreement on the middle names, but I don't think we're too far off. I have a feeling that Meg's going to be getting a lot of rest pretty soon, so she'll probably have plenty of time to give it more thought.

On a side note, don't be confused if you come back to the blog and it looks completely different.  When I decided that I wanted to start a blog, it was in the middle of the night one morning when I couldn't sleep because all I was thinking about was the fact that we were just told we were having triplets.  I did a brief amount of research on blogs and just picked a fun blue background with crazy monkeys, because, honestly, I thought we were having three boys.  I don't really like the background we have now, so I'm going to switch it up a little and possibly change the format.

So, let us know what you think about the names! We love comments!

I realize that I don't personally know many of you that read this blog, but that doesn't mean that we don't want to or don't care about what you have to say.  It feels good to know whether or not you're enjoying how I'm sharing this journey.

  1. i love the names you chose :) i just can't get into alot of the weird names nowadays, so i am always happy to hear "normal" names!!! and i like how they all can have similar nicknames if they want to use them!!

  2. We almost used Isabella with the nickname Bella. We chose Sophia and call her Sophie and our dog is Madeline and we call her Maddie. I love all of your names!! haha. I can't wait to hear your middle names. Sophie's was particularly difficult I thought because nothing sounds better than "Sophia Lorinne" or however she spells it. Anyway, I enjoy your blog.I am excited for you all and can't wait to meet them. :)

  4. The names you have picked are adorable! You will be amazed when your girls arrive and each one of their names/nicknames fits them perfectly. Like you, my husband and I chose names for each of our little ones that could also be shortened into a nickname. Robert, a.k.a. Bobby, is 7. Katherine, a.k.a. Katie, is 5. Andrew, a.k.a. Andy, is 2. I enjoy reading your blog and am looking forward to "meeting" your girls! :)

  5. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE those names!

Picking a name is such a time consuming process, yet so so so exciting for new parents. I still remember the research I've done for Konrad and Maya; the books, internet research, friends and family input (the meaning of the names, the heritage, the way I want those to be spelled).
And yes, I do believe that each name bring with it certain characteristic to the unborn child.. Maybe that's silly, but looking at my children I see those "little things" in them.

..now as far as the middle names for Sophia, Isabelle and Madelyn; I recommend go to "Belgian". Something strong, yet sweet :)
    Angéline
    Elise
    Evelien
    Emily
    Emma

    or traditional Belgian:
    Chloé
    Anaïs
    Aurélie
    Mathilde

...I hope you know I'm just kidding. You guys have done such a great job picking their first names, you don't need any help with the middle names.

I'm truly happy for both of you. Enjoy this blessed moment!

  8. Jeremy, the names totally ROCK! They will be perfect when they have to be responsible adults someday but even more so, they are such cute baby names! I can't wait to match their little faces to their names! Well done! And I also like that you specifically named each baby. That's what we did. Some people said we should just choose 3 names we liked and then decide after they were born which which baby to give which name. But we really felt like they needed personalities while they were still growing so as you know, we named our Baby A Colton, our Baby B Ethan, and our Baby C Hunter (which conveniently turned out to the the baby who was not in fact a boy...but a girl! Worked out well since that was really the only name that could've gone either way!) Anyhoo, tell Meg also great job on the names! And I can't wait to see your new blog background! I used to change mine up every few weeks but for some reason, I've gotten so lazy! It's probably been the same for about a year now! Maybe I'll change mine up too! :)

  9. Thanks Ami. If my memory serves me correctly, I think I got the idea from reading your blog. I remember when I was reading some of your older posts a couple of months ago, after I found your blog, that I thought it would be a pretty cool idea to name them while they were still inside, specifically for the same reason you did :)

  10. The names are great! You all did a great job selecting those names. My husband and I also decided on first names well before we settled on middle names. We also went with different 'stand alone' first names because they are three different people - Andrew, Jared and Wesley. However, we gave them the 'triplet connection' through their middle name. So, our guys all have the same middle name of Travis. This is also their Daddy's middle name. I am happy with our decision and it helped settle the challenge of coming up with 6 different names. Good luck!!

  11. Love their names, don't give them nicknames, their chosen names are too beautiful to shorten :) but if you must, I like Bella instead of Izzy
